Goodachari (Spy): Telugu movie review

Image
Like Evaru , this one was suggested by home minister and also by Firangi, so it would be interesting, without doubt. The right boxes for this movie are - spy thriller, patriotism, good quality action. I'm a HUGE spy book/ movie buff so I immediately jumped on this one. So, what's the scene here? A young man,  Adivi Shesh  (as Gopi), is driven by his goal of serving the nation. Of following in his father's footsteps, who was a RAW agent and gave up his life for the nation. Does a greater honour exist? Gopi, after losing his father at a very young age, is brought up by his father's friend,  Prakash Raj  (as Satya). Satya is very protective of Gopi and he does not want him to follow his father's footsteps. The movie is about Gopi's journey of getting into the RAW agency, training and the twists and turns he encounters after his posting, in his quest for the truth. Check out the bgm  here .  Trailer . THE most anticipated movie of all times is finally here. The movie gods showed mercy and bestowed upon us a feast for our senses, like water on parched lips. Like moth to flame, we sacrifice ourselves at the brilliance of it all. It would have been sacrilege to release this movie on OTT as systems such as IMAX were built because one day, movies such as KGF would be made. And I thank the makers for waiting it out and unleashing it in the theatres  🙏 . It is no small feat to hold out in an unpredictable world and I applaud the guts here.  Teaser .  Trailer . Like how you hesitate approaching the sunshine of your life in college, I didn't even watch the trailer till a few hours prior to experiencing the movie. True story. So sacred is the image in my brain. This movie is written and directed by  Prashanth Neel , cinematography is by  Bhuvan Gowda , art direction is by Shivakumar and music is by  Ravi Barsur . KGF2 The narration style is similar to that of Chapter 1, so the movie hap

Evaru Telugu movie review: Whodunnit?

This one was suggested home minister (which bumped it to a mandatory viewing) and also by Firangi, so it would be interesting, without doubt. If you're interested in boxing things up, I'd say the keywords here are murder mystery and thriller. The suave sub - inspector Vikram Vasudev ( Adivi Shesh ) is called to investigate/ help Sam ( Regina Cassandra ) who is accused of killing her alleged rapist (who a high - ranking police officer), so there is a lot of media attention and powerful people involved, so navigating the investigation is a tricky thing. Sam takes charge and avails Vikram's services for a "fee".  A major portion of the movie is shot in an aesthetically - pleasing hotel room (bonus points for interior decoration) and is a conversation between the main characters in this movie. From here we're taken to flashbacks at 2 times, one during the murder and one a year before. Two story threads are interwoven here, and we're taken through different ver

Forgotten (Korean: 기억의 밤; RR: Gieokui Bam): The unforgettable South Korean movie!

This movie viewing was serendipitous and extremely exciting, thanks to the keen eye of  the Swede. I'll never forget my awe on watching this movie, projected on a white wall by his phone!! As you might tell from the movie name, you can expect something to do with memory. I would say this is a psychological thriller. In the first few scenes we see a happy family of 4. Mother, father and 2 sons. But something doesn't seem right.. like recalling a dream, you know it, but cannot put a finger on it. As we progress, there are more things to ponder about. The movie leads you to it's warm, twisty embrace... There are so many twists and turns, that it's a guessing game with yourself. What is going on? Who is being truthful? Who is lying? Is anyone staring at the frayed ends of sanity? Where is the dream and where does reality begin? Source . The mood in the first half is always tense. Strange sounds, unexplained behaviour, questioning whom to trust, there is a lot going on. At n

My dinner with Andre: English movie thoughts. The universe's first podcast?

My introduction to this movie was serendipitous, via a clip Palli sent me.I felt I had just heard a prophecy. It was as if someone pulled out many of my currently lingering thoughts and made a movie out of it in the past. The movie was released in 1981. I was intrigued and watched it. Check out the trailer here . Thought - provoking, isn't it? Essentially, it is two old friends who have met after a long time, sitting and talking, in a posh restaurant. That's it. But how can watch just this for 111 minutes? That is where the genius of the movie lies.  Camera 1 of 2 So, what is this all about? It features  Andre Gregory  as Andre, and  Wallace Shawn  as Wally (looks like he is in pretty much half the movies ever made, check out his filmography!). These 2 occupy the frames for 90% of the time, with the rest dedicated to the butler and the streets of NY. The first half of the movie is pretty much Wally making his way to the restaurant, and Andre talking about his experiences over t

A Billion colour story: The best movie you've not heard about

Trailer.   Source This is not a movie. It's a mirror, showing us what the world is going through. A mirror showing us a glimpse of the grotesque caricature of ourselves that we've become. It does not matter from which "country" you are. In today's world, one might relate to this movie if you're willing to agree that something is fundamentally wrong in the the world we're in, and in the direction we're heading towards.  It is an island in the turbulent ocean, an oasis in the desert of unreason and a bright star in a dark sky. A time and place for you to stop and think. The tree in the desert where the bone- dry skeletons that our conscious, logic, kinship and minds are lie, continuously pecked by the merchants of hate, the peddlers of lies and by the megalomaniacs that rule primetime. About what kind of a nightmare world we have allowed to consume us and our souls.  I mean, if refugees are allowed from an imploding, war - torn country based on their &q

Rockstar: Hindi movie thoughts

It has been a decade since this movie got released. Like experiencing a fine aged wine, we wanted to see this movie again. Like a mysterious elixir, this movie has aged beautifully. I think, once the impact of this movie gets imprinted on your brain, it doesn't fade. Randomly, in the middle of nowhere, if someone plays " Sadda Haq ", or " Kun Faya Kun ", the same feelings will be dredged up as they did, from 2011. That is the purity of the songs and the movie. Source Narrated in a non- linear fashion, the movie follows the journey of a Delhi college lad who nurses ambitions of becoming a famous guitarist and singer. Upon being told about how great musicians led painful lives which inspired their music, he sets out in search of love/ pain ("The pain should be so intense that you should bleed words. Better be a word man, rather than a bird man."). Little does he known that the pull of love is all - consuming, like moth to flame. The path you indicate tow
